Solution 1: Buy the legit copies and emulate then if you have enough power to support emulation. Pre-GZ the ports were absolute shit. Keep in mind it is emulation so you might have a lot of problems. Solution 2: You get your PC, open a second hand store and trying to snipe a cheap PS3 and get a Legacy Collection.
I know that is not what you asked and I probably sound like a wanker saying this, but I feel this is the only way you can play the old games with no headaches. With the new generation of consols, I am sure you can get a PS3 faily cheap, depending on where you life, and the Legacy Collection is nicely made, 1080p 60fps and you will have no headaches with optimization of the emulation or any settings.
If you by no means can do Solution 2, try to emulate, the emulators are rather good, but you will skip MGS4, since it is only on PS3. Rukovodstvo po remontu snegohoda ski doo skandik wt. If you can, and your financial situation allows you this (again, I understand that even a 100 dollar purchase is something people think over, I do that myself) try to get your hands on a working PS3 and just skip yourself a lot of headaches. Just my 2 cents. Sorry to respond to an old thread, but you seem educated on this.
I have a good PC and and a ps3, do you think the MGS 2 and 3 experience is better emulated on PC or is the HD collection (not legacy) a better solution? I'll probably get the hd collection anyways for peace walker, but wikipedia says some features are missing from the HD re-release (some modes, minigames and online support), so would it be better to play the emulated ps2 version of substance and subsistence? In regards to fidelity and feature completeness. Metal Gear Solid 1 - Epsxe, it's better than the PC port for sure (too many compatibility problems imho) Metal Gear Solid 2 - The PC port is ok, but 16:9 is fucked up, so if you want that too you should play it with PS2 emulator (pcsx2) and 16:9 hack Metal Gear Solid 3 - PCSX2, it's very very heavy and you'll probably would not be able to watch cutscenes at full speed if you'll increase internal resolution Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops - PPSSPP, but controls suck even with a decent pad Metal Gear Solid 4 - Nope, maybe in the future. (rpsc3) Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker - PPSSPP, it runs perfectly if you have a decent PC And yeah, that's all (aside MG, MG2, Ghost Babel, Acid, Acid 2, and the mobile games).
If you need any help with emulation I'm here! I'm not sure if you've ever tried Portable Ops on PPSSPP, but with a 360 controller and a few slight control tweaks in the game menu it will control far far better than Peace Walker, which takes a lot of work to get functioning on a 360 controller. Set look controls to D-Pad and and the face buttons are normal and Portable Ops controls like a dream. Peace Walker, however, needs serious reconfiguration to be playable unless you want to have all your functions on the D-Pad which is very inconvenient and somewhat game breaking. This may seem a little long-winded but getting kick-ass controls for Portable Ops on a 360 controller is totally worth it. You don't have to change any face buttons if you don't want to (I recommend leaving them as is for the best experience). NOTES: Emulation of Portable Ops Also, the best emulator to use is.
